Coburn: Bipartisanship Leads to Overspending

Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma isn't as happy as much of the rest of Washington with all the recent bipartisan agreement.

The budget deal passed
by the House and Senate has been heralded as a breakthrough in a deeply divided government, but Coburn said Sunday on "Meet the Press" that agreement on a bipartisanship deal wasn't good in this case.

"The reason we're in trouble with deficits and debts is not because we didn't agree, but because we did," Coburn said. "We agreed to spend $740 billion we didn't have last year."

The senator released his annual "Wastebook" last week that chronicles what he says are the biggest instances of government waste in the past year. Bipartisan agreements, he said, contributed to $30 billion in waste.

Republicans and Democrats also agreed to $80 billion of fraud being allowed in the Medicaid system, he said, disputing the very idea that parties don't get along.
