Conservatives Rip 'Hamilton' Cast for Slamming Pence

Conservatives Saturday slammed the cast of the Broadway musical "Hamilton" after one of its actors ripped Vice President-elect Mike Pence from the stage when their performance ended on Friday.

"I'm disappointed," former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told Uma Pemmaraju on Fox News. "I'm not angry. I'm just disappointed.

"Individual artists have every right to express themselves and say whatever they wish," he said, adding that the arts was "one of the few places in America where people really do come together over music and the theater and film.

"It's one of those rare places where even people from the most distant points of view can at least come to agreement on the value of the arts for the preservation of culture.

"I hate to see the arts get embroiled into a very partisan attack on a public figure," Huckabee said.

At the Richard Rodgers Theatre, actor Brandon Victor Dixon — who plays Aaron Burr, the nation's third vice president — told Pence from the stage that the multiracial and multicultural cast was worried about the incoming Trump administration.

"We, sir, are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights," Dixon said. "We truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us.

"All of us."

Pence, who was booed as he entered the theater with family members and Secret Service agents, left before Dixon finished but remained in a lobby hallway to hear all of the actor's comments.

On Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump unleashed a Twitter rant — charging that Pence was "harassed" by the musical's cast and demanding an apology:

Trump supporters also created the hashtag #BoycottHamilton, which had more than 420,000 tweets by Saturday afternoon and was a top trending topic.

In addition, Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the Tony-winning play about the Founding Fathers, congratulated Dixon for "leading with love."
