It's up to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to decide if he's going to resign in the wake of the rift between his office and the city's police department, said real estate and media billionaire Donald Trump.
If de Blasio decides to stay in office, he will have to "do something" to address his relationship with the NYPD, beginning with an apology, Trump told "Fox & Friends."
"(Resigning is) certainly up to him. But, I see it all over the place. Everybody wants that," Trump said Monday. "He has to start with an apology. And, after the apology, [he] has to just break bread and see if he can get it together."

Tensions between law enforcement and de Blasio have been on display, most recently as policemen turned their backs on the mayor while he was speaking at the funeral of slain officer Rafael Ramos on Saturday.
Trump said it would be "very, very tough" for de Blasio to repair the relationship because of his criticism of the NYPD when he ran for office.
"When he was campaigning, he was very, very tough on the police. Very tough," he said. "He's got to explain his actions. His campaign was against police. It was largely against police.
"His was a very violent and vicious campaign against the police, and the police have done an amazing job."
There was a time when New York City was "one of the most unsafe places to be," Trump said, adding that it was now probably the "safest big city there is" because of police policies.
"We have an amazing police force, and they have to be respected. And, one day you're going to see the police start to protest, and then you're going to see something," he said.
