Axios Poll: Most Dems Would Vote Ocasio-Cortez for President

An overwhelming majority of Democrats would consider voting for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., if they could, a new poll shows.

The Axios-SurveyMonkey survey found 74 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning adults would vote for her.

But for now, voters cannot. The self-described democratic socialist is 29, and under the Constitution, you must be at least 35 to be president.

The 74 percent figure includes 17 percent who say they would "definitely" vote for her, the survey found.

The poll also found the newly elected lawmaker is more popular among Democrats than Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and nearly as popular as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

"These data show the phenomenon is real," the survey's chief research officer, Jon Cohen, told Axios.

The survey showed 70 percent of the Democrats and Democratic leaners had a favorable impression of her, compared with 64 percent for Schumer and 75 percent for Pelosi.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
