Latino turnout is much higher in this year's midterms elections than it was in 2014 and Democrats support a comprehensive immigration plan, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Rep. Ben Ray Lujan said Tuesday, while slamming the president for saying "ugly and disgusting" things about Hispanics.
"I saw numbers this morning that Latino turnout is up over 150 percent above 2014," the New Mexico Democrat told MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
"African-American voting is up 136 percent; millennial turnout is over 250 percent. I'm encouraged by the numbers we're seeing across America. There's a reason why our committee, the Congressional Campaign Committee invested almost $30 million in our year of engagement finishing recently with reaching out to Latino voters in English and Spanish. We're going to make sure we're doing everything we can all the way through tonight to reach out to voters and we'll continue to do it after Election Day."
Meanwhile, Democrats have been clear that they support a comprehensive immigration reform package that is "tough and fair," and encourages people to come forward but to make sure they are "getting inline, that they are paying taxes."
A strong comprehensive immigration reform package would be positive for the economy as well, Lujan added.
"Our candidates have been clear from the very beginning. They support strong policies that lead to strong, smart and fair border security policy. So the president's attacks against Democrats are simply false here. Democrats also want to do something that the president is not talking about. That's working in a bipartisan basis across the aisle. That's the only way to get this done. If the bills go to the floor, we'll be able to get 250 votes and would have happened this year with Republicans in charge."
