Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., on Sunday told Fox News that it looked as though Twitter was censoring people “and they ought to stop it.”

His comments follow a Vice story published last week that said Twitter was limiting the visibility of prominent Republicans in search results, a technique known as “shadow banning.”

“I had no idea what shadow banning even was, I had absolutely no clue,” Nunes told Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“For several months, people have been contacting me saying that ‘Hey, I tried to find you on Twitter, I couldn’t find your account, why is that,’ and then a report came out where in fact there were four people in the House of Representatives and the only four politicians in the country that … essentially we were getting caught up in some kind of trap to where people couldn’t see our Twitter feed.”

Vice reported that RNC chair Ronna McDaniel, Donald Trump Jr.’s spokesman Andrew Surabian, Reps. Mark Meadows, Jim Jordan, Nunes and Matt Gaetz didn’t appear in the drop-down search box of Twitter.

The social media company told Vice it was “aware that some accounts are not automatically populating in our search box and shipping a change to address this.”

Asked why only conservative Republicans appear to be affected, the spokesperson wrote: “I'd emphasize that our technology is based on account *behavior* not the content of Tweets.”

Nunes said the activity was suspicious.

“I don’t know what Twitter is up to, it sure looks to me like they’re censoring people and they ought to stop it and we’re looking at any legal remedies that we can go through,” he said.
