Democratic donors have now been ensnared in the aftermath of the massive hack and breach of the Democratic National Committee, according to Politico.
Social Security numbers and other personal information of donors has made it into the wrong hands, prompting the DNC to get on calls — conference and personal — to assuage the donors who now must spend money and time to protect their identities, Politico reported.
However, donors, albeit frustrated and angry with the DNC for not better protecting their information, seem to be undeterred in their donations to ensure Hillary Clinton wins the White House — the show must go on.
"We're highly motivated, and much like anything else you're committed to, you have to overcome the unwanted obstacles, and you move forward," Democratic fundraiser Jay Jacobs whose information was in the hack told Politico.
In the meantime, the DNC is trying its best to triage the breach, which also included harassment of its donors.
According to the Politico report:
- Interim DNC chairwoman Donna Brazile has been on the phone with individual donors as well as conference calls;
- The DNC created a Cybersecurity Advisory Board;
- The committee's legal team has reviewed the breach to get a full account of those affected.
"Those individuals receiving the data breach notice also will receive offers of assistance to help mitigate any threats to their financial security," Politico quoted Brazile's memo outlining the DNC's response.
