Republican presidential contender Donald Trump is crowing that his new book,
"Crippled America," was "selling like hotcakes" in its first hours of release Tuesday.
Unveiling the 193-page work covering his own success, the media, and what it would take to make America great again — Trump's presidential campaign theme — the real estate billionaire called the book "very hard-hitting,"
Politico reports.
"It says it like it is, and based on what Simon & Schuster just told me, it's selling like hotcakes," Trump told the crowd gathered at Trump Tower for the unveiling, Politico reports.
Some people had been "in line now for 12 and 14 hours" to get a copy, he added.
"I think it's like historic, it's pretty unbelievable," said Lorie Shockley, a nurse from Ohio who said she'd driven eight hours with her boyfriend to get Trump to sign two copies of his latest book, one for her and one for her son.
"I'm anti-establishment. Even if he doesn't make it, I still think that he has changed the dynamics of politics and what's going on right now in our country."
A German tourist who gave his name only as Marcel — who said the unveiling was among the highlights of a trip to New York that would also include a visit to the Statue of Liberty and a basketball game — offered an instant review of the work.
"I think it's easy to read," he said. "Maybe it will be getting more concrete when I read it further, but right at the moment, not in-depth analysis I would say."
According to ABC's New York affiliate, WABC-TV, the book includes a 14-page biography and a list of some of the properties he has developed, managed and licensed over the years — as well as a declaration that his net worth has increased since he launched his campaign.
It also includes chapters on the dangers of illegal immigration and his commitment to Second Amendment rights for gun owners.
Trump conceded the picture of him on the book cover is a "terrible, horrible, nasty picture" chosen to reflect his "anger and unhappiness' about the current state of the nation's affairs.
He said he'd donate all profits to a number of causes.
Introducing the candidate and author at a Trump Tower unveiling, Louise Burke, publisher of Threshold Editions, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, said the publishing house was "proud" of the work.
"What this book is saying and what makes us proud to publish it is we can make America great again," Burke said, Politico reports.
Trump's first and most recognizable title was
"Trump: The Art of the Deal," released in 2004.
His prior most-recent release was in August, of
"Time to Get Tough: Make America Great Again."
