Trump Critic Chris Stewart Considered as Intel Chief

By    |   Tuesday, 12 November 2024 03:51 PM EST

President-elect Donald Trump is considering appointing former Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, to be his director of national intelligence, two people told Axios.

Stewart, who served on the House Intelligence Committee during his decade in Congress, was considered for the same role in 2020 but Trump ditched him after he criticized Trump as "our Mussolini" in 2016, Axios reported. Trump instead selected Ric Grenell.

Stewart represented Utah's 2nd Congressional District from 2013 until he resigned in 2023 due to his wife's health issues. Before entering Congress, he spent 14 years in the Air Force.

A Trump transition spokesman did not respond to a request for comment from Axios.
