Former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski has once again become involved in the inner workings of the Republican nominee's bid for the presidency, Politico reports.

Lewandowski was fired in June following concerns that he encouraged Trump to make reckless statements and was replaced by Paul Manafort, his main rival among the candidate's advisers.

But Lewandowski's exile from the inner workings of the campaign apparently ended when Manafort himself resigned last month and was replaced by a team that was not antagonistic towards him and reportedly welcomed his insights.

Since Manafort's departure he has been listening in on morning conference calls and speaking regularly with some of the campaign leadership to consult and offer his experience, Politico reports.

ABC News said a few indications of his re-emergence with the campaign is that Lewandowski regularly speaks with Trump, with whom he has maintained a good relationship since being fired. In addition, the Trump campaign reportedly recently ordered the Secret Service to restore Lewandowski's access to restricted areas at campaign events.

One of the sources described Lewandowski's influence on the race as stronger than what anyone imagines.

The Trump campaign, however, stressed that he has no decision-making authority and that his new role is informal and advisory.

Lewandowski critics say this involvement is problematic because of his job as a paid commentator on CNN that he began after being fired from the campaign, which detractors say is a conflict of interests now that he is once again involved with Trump's quest for the presidency.

However, others say that criticism is groundless, since as a commentator he does not have to be impartial and it only adds to his credentials that he has strong contacts with the campaign.
