The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will be selling limited edition SmarTrip transit cards featuring a photo of President-elect Donald Trump beginning Wednesday to celebrate his inauguration, which is Jan. 20.
The card will read, "The Inauguration of Donald J. Trump: 45th and 47th President of the United States," according to the Washingtonian.
The agency said in a news release the card will be available at 16 select Metrorail stations while supplies last: Ashburn, Forest Glen, Franconia-Springfield, Glenmont, Greenbelt, King St-Old Town, L'Enfant Plaza, Metro Center, Navy Yard-Ballpark, New Carrollton, Shady Grove, Stadium-Armory, Union Station, Vienna, and Ronald Reagan Washington National and Washington Dulles International airports.
Some Metro stations will be closed on Inauguration Day, including the McPherson Square and Smithsonian stops.
The transit authority didn't offer a commemorative card with Trump's photo on it in 2017, as it had done for Barack Obama's inaugurations. The transit agency said at the time, according to the Washingtonian, that no one from Trump's campaign responded to the agency's request for a photo. Instead, the agency issued a generic inauguration card, and then a sleeve adorned with Trump's face.
But that was still better than in 2021, when new security and service plans in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic discouraged travelers to D.C. for Joe Biden's inauguration, and the transit authority didn't issue a commemorative card.
