Trump: Iran Deal Will Lead to 'Nuclear Holocaust'

By    |   Sunday, 16 August 2015 12:11 PM EDT

GOP presidential front-runner says he has taken over some bad contracts in his years as a businessman, and, as president, he would make the best of the nuclear deal recently negotiated by the Obama administration.

"The people that negotiated that deal, mainly [Secretary of State John] Kerry and his friends, are incompetent," Trump said Sunday on "Meet the Press."

But Trump told moderator Chuck Todd in an interview taped Saturday in Iowa that he is accustomed to looking over bad deals negotiated by others and finding ways to work them to his own advantage. He said he would do the same for the United States with the Iran deal if it is passed by Congress.

Rather than rip the deal up, as some of his opponents have suggested they'd do, Trump said, "I would police that contract so tough that they don't have a chance."

Had he negotiated the deal, Trump said he would never have allowed Iran to regain the $150 billion in frozen assets and would have required the release of four Americans now being held in the country.

"I would have told them up front, will you never get your $150 billion back. They are going to be such a wealthy, such a powerful nation, they're going to have nuclear weapons," he said. "They are going to take over parts of the world you wouldn't believe. And I think it's going to lead to nuclear holocaust."

Trump wouldn't say whether he would order immediate airstrikes if he found Iran to be violating the deal.

"Obama talks too much about what he's going to do here. We're going to raid here, do this," he said.
