President Donald Trump ripped Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., once again two days after the senator released an op-ed advising the GOP to “move beyond the cult of Trump’s personality.”
Trump wrote on Twitter Friday morning, “Jeff Flake(y) doesn’t want to protect the Non-Senate confirmed Special Counsel, he wants to protect his future after being unelectable in Arizona for the ‘crime’ of doing a terrible job! A weak and ineffective guy!”
Flake, who is retiring once his current term ends, wrote in The Washington Post on Wednesday that “the big question for Republicans is whether we believe in anything that is in any way coherent, beyond the current cult of the president’s personality,” and said the GOP must start “believing in something greater than President Trump again,” following the loss of the House in the midterm elections.
Trump said in a press conference on Wednesday that he “retired” Flake.
"I'm very proud of it. I did the country a great service,” he added.
