Former President Donald Trump this week privately met with Teamsters Union President Sean O'Brien, whose organization has invited presidential candidates to vie for its endorsement ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
O'Brien on Wednesday evening posted a picture of himself along with Trump to social media with the caption: "There are serious issues that need to [be] addressed to improve the lives of working people across the country, and the Teamsters Union is making sure our members' voices are heard as we head into a critical election year.
"We thank the former President for taking time during this private meeting to listen to the Teamsters' top priorities."
O'Brien also noted that this meeting led to an agreement for O'Brien, Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman, and rank-and-file Teamsters to have "an important and necessary roundtable with President Trump this month."
The union previously met with Trump's GOP rival former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West.
President Joe Biden, who the Teamsters endorsed in 2020, has described himself as the most pro-union president the country has ever had, and made history last year by walking an autoworkers picket line in Michigan. He has been endorsed in the 2024 election by another leading labor union, the AFL-CIO.
"The president has a close working relationship with the Teamsters and looks forward to working through their endorsement process to earn the support of their members," Biden's senior adviser for communications, T.J. Ducklo said in a statement to Politico.
