Trump Spotlights Hungary Leader Orban's Support

By    |   Monday, 03 June 2024 12:11 PM EDT

Former President Donald Trump touted support from Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban after Trump's conviction last week on 34 felony counts in a New York criminal trial.

In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump shared a screenshot of a message Orban posted on X.

"I've known President @realDonaldTrump to be a man of honour," Orbán wrote. "As President, he always put America first, he commanded respect around the world and used this respect to build peace."

"Let the people make their verdict this November!" Orban continued. "Keep on fighting, Mr. President!"

Trump on Thursday became the first former U.S. president to be convicted of felony crimes when a Manhattan jury returned a guilty verdict on all 34 counts of falsifying business records to illegally influence the 2016 election.

Trump's lawyers have vowed to appeal the verdict. Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, called on the Supreme Court to intervene in the case before sentencing on July 11.

"The 'Sentencing' for not having done anything wrong will be, conveniently for the Fascists, 4 days before the Republican National Convention," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday. "A Radical Left Soros backed D.A., who ran on a platform of 'I will get Trump,' reporting to an 'Acting' Local Judge, appointed by the Democrats, who is HIGHLY CONFLICTED, will make a decision which will determine the future of our Nation? The United States Supreme Court MUST DECIDE!"

The Kremlin also commented on Trump's criminal case.

"If we speak about Trump, the fact that there is simply the elimination, in effect, of political rivals by all possible means, legal and illegal, is obvious," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a news briefing Friday.
