Former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, who was the Democrats' 1988 presidential nominee, called the 17-candidate field chasing the Republican presidential nomination this year "confusing," and "entertaining," in a radio appearance Sunday morning.

"If you want reality television, you’re getting it. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out," Dukakis said on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.

Billionaire real estate developer and former star of the actual reality show "The Apprentice," Donald Trump,  is currently leading the Republican race.

"Politics is a strange business," Dukakis told host John Catsimatidis. "I'm probably the last guy to offer an opinion on how to win the presidency given what happened to me in 1988."

Dukakis famously became the butt of jokes when he rode in a tank with his helmeted head sticking out the top and any chance he had of beating then Vice President George H.W. Bush was lost.

Dukakis said he and his wife, Kitty, are supporting Democratic Party front-runner Hillary Clinton.

"We like her and have a lot of respect for her," he said.
