Egypt and Jordan rejected President Donald Trump's suggestion to host displaced Palestinians as Gaza faces rebuilding efforts after the Israel-Hamas conflict, Breitbart reported.

Egypt and Jordan, neighboring nations to the Gaza Strip, have dismissed a proposal from Trump to shelter displaced Palestinians while the region undergoes reconstruction. Trump's remarks, made over the weekend, described Gaza as a "demolition site" after extensive destruction since the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

Gaza has experienced unprecedented devastation since the conflict erupted, with Hamas carrying out targeted killings, torture, and other atrocities in Israeli territory, claiming approximately 1,200 lives.

Israel declared war on Hamas in response, targeting the group's leadership and infrastructure, including top figures such as Gaza chief Yahya Sinwar and al-Qassam Brigades leader Mohammed Deif.

This month, Israel reached a ceasefire agreement with Hamas, enabling a gradual return of civilians to Gaza.

Trump proposed that Gaza's Arab neighbors, Egypt and Jordan, take in refugees temporarily.

"You're talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing," Trump told reporters.

He added that he had raised the idea with King Abdullah II of Jordan and intended to do the same with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The suggestion was swiftly rebuffed.

"All talk about an alternative homeland for Palestinians is rejected," Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Monday. "We will not accept it and will continue to confront it."

He said that "Jordan is for Jordanians, and Palestine is for Palestinians."

The Jordanian House of Representatives echoed this stance, saying, "We reaffirm our rejection of all illusions of displacement aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause at the expense of Jordan and Egypt."

Similarly, Egypt's Foreign Ministry described its opposition to hosting displaced Palestinians as "categorical." A statement published by Egyptian media reaffirmed "support for the resilience of the Palestinian people on their land" and rejected displacement as undermining Palestinians' rights.

Trump expressed frustration at the resistance.

"I wish [Sisi] would take some. We helped them a lot, and I'm sure he'd help us. He's a friend of mine," Trump said.

Despite Trump's optimism, King Abdullah has long opposed the idea of sheltering Palestinians in Jordan. Addressing the United Nations in September, he called for a "protection mechanism" for Palestinians but dismissed any suggestion of Jordan serving as an alternative homeland.

"Let me be very, very clear: that will never happen," he said.

Meanwhile, Hamas leadership also opposes any efforts to relocate Palestinians. A senior Hamas figure told Agence France-Presse this week that the group would "foil" attempts to rescue Palestinians from Gaza.

Egypt, which shares a land border with Gaza, has tightened security throughout the conflict to prevent Palestinians from entering. Egyptian citizens, citing the country's history of hosting refugees from Syria, Yemen, and Sudan, have also expressed resistance to accommodating displaced Gazans.
