Elon Musk responded to Donald Trump's recent criticism by saying it was time for the former president to "hang up his hat & sail into the sunset."

Musk commented via Twitter after sharing a story about Trump on Saturday night calling the Tesla and SpaceX CEO a "bulls**t artist."

"I don't hate the man, but it's time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset," Musk tweeted Monday night. "Dems should also call off the attack — don't make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the Presidency."

Musk's tweet came after Trump's appearance at a rally in Alaska, where the former president suggested the billionaire's move to buy Twitter was a ruse. Trump also called Musk a liar for saying he had never voted for a Republican.

After Musk’s "sunset" tweet, talk show host Joe Pags Pagliarulo asked the billionaire whether he had an issue with Trump's presidency, pointing out policies regarding energy independence, lower regulations, construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, and stricter rules, including a wall, at the southern border.

"Yeah, but too much drama. Do we really want a bull in a china shop situation every single day!?" Musk tweeted. "Also, I think the legal maximum age for start of Presidential term should be 69."

Another Twitter follower asked Musk why he wouldn't support a 2024 GOP national ticket with Trump at the top and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the vice president nominee. DeSantis then could run in ’28 and ’32.

"Trump would be 82 at end of term, which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America," Musk tweeted in response.

"If DeSantis runs against Biden in 2024, then DeSantis will easily win — he doesn’t even need to campaign."

Musk last month tweeted that he was leaning toward supporting DeSantis in the '24 presidential election. He also said he cast his first-ever ballot for a Republican by voting for Mayra Flores, who won a special election for the U.S. House seat in Texas District 34.

Musk in May said he would vote for Republican candidates in the upcoming 2022 midterm election, a break from his usual Democrat leanings.
