Before man can colonize Mars, he may have to blow it up — with thermonuclear weapons.
That's the word from Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors and the rocket company SpaceX,
The Washington Post reports.
Musk, appearing on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," suggested two ways to make the Red Planet a new home for humans.
One way is to flood Mars with greenhouse gases, which would eventually trigger a climate change humans could live in.
The other proposal?
"The fast way is to drop thermonuclear weapons over the poles," Musk said.
A surprised Colbert quipped: "You're a supervillain! Superman doesn't say, 'let's drop nuclear bombs.' That's Lex Luthor, man."
After Earth, Mars is considered the most habitable planet in the solar system.
SpaceX rockets are expected to be ready for human passengers within three years. They will also be used to transport NASA astronauts to the International Space Station.
