Elon Musk: Social Media, Artificial Intelligence Should Be Regulated

(CBS's "This Morning")

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, said he believes social media and artificial intelligence should be regulated.

"I think whenever something is, whenever there's something that affects the public good, then there does need to be some form of public oversight . . . I do think there should be some regulations on A.I. I think there should be regulations on social media to the degree that it negatively affects the public good," Musk said in a Tuesday interview on "CBS This Morning."

"We can't have, like, willy-nilly proliferation of fake news. That's crazy. You can't have more types of fake news than real news. That's allowing public deception to go unchecked. That's crazy," Musk added.

The carmaker CEO told CBS host Gayle King his company Tesla takes steps to make sure its customer data is private.

Tesla's stock is up about 20 percent since the company announced it had a production target of 5,000 Model 3 sedans per week by the end of June. The stock closed Tuesday up by 5.1 percent, CNBC reported.
