Former Republican Party House Majority Leader Tom Delay said Monday "it's time" for America to "stand up" for itself, praising President Donald Trump's hard stance about on trading and defense with our European allies.
In an interview on Newsmax TV's "America Talks Live," DeLay dismissed French President Emmanuel Macron's speech delivering a rebuke of Trump's "America First" policy.
"What's going on in Europe is they've been caught," he said. "They're not our enemies, they are great allies, and we greatly appreciate that. But they've been taking advantage of our friendship since World War II and now it's time – and it has been for decades – time for the United States to stand up."

DeLay said he thinks Trump was likely "a little surprised" by Macron's speech and the reception there, but DeLay praised Trump, saying he "looked like a leader and acted like a leader."
"His tone was absolutely perfect," DeLay said. "Strong, firm, direct . . . And we've come to expect that out of President Trump. And I'm so glad that he is standing up for the United States, and frankly for the world, because the world has to work together and not let the United States do everything for them."
