Former Transportation Security Administration chief John Pistole has reportedly been involved in discussions about the position of FBI director – though it is unclear if he is interested.

CNN reported Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein met Pistole to talk about the position over lunch.

Pistole, who now is president of Anderson University in Indiana, had already been seen as a possible successor for fired FBI Director James Comey, according to USA Today.

Pistole was named deputy director at the FBI in 2004 after running its counterterrorism division in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks before former President Barack Obama tapped him for the top TSA job in 2010.

The report of Pistole's consideration comes in the wake of former Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., withdrawing his name Thursday from a list of contenders.
