FBI Probing New Company in Clinton Email Scandal

FBI Probing New Company in Clinton Email Scandal
(Wire Services) Sen. Ron Johnson

A second technology company is under investigation in the FBI's probe of Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton's emails, after Republican Sen. Ron Johnson sent a letter Tuesday requesting back-up information from the firm.

Johnson, the Wisconsin chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, requested the back-up data from Datto Inc., a technology security company based in Norwalk, Conn., The Washington Post reports.

The chairman also asked Datto officials what role the company and others had in servicing Clinton's private email accounts.

"Datto is working with the FBI to provide data in conjunction with its investigation," Michael Fass, Datto's general counsel, told the Post.

According to the report, Datto was hired to back up Clinton's accounts in May 2013 by Platte River Networks, the technology company brought aboard by the Clinton family earlier that year to manage the system after Hillary Clinton left the State Department.

The FBI has been investigating whether Clinton stored and transmitted classified information through her private server.

Platte River, with headquarters in Denver, gave a server to the FBI in August.

Fass told the Post that Platte River had given Datto its consent to provide the data to the FBI. The agency would receive a "node," hardware that Datto kept in Pennsylvania that allowed it to store information on its cloud, a company executive told the Post.

Spokesmen for neither FBI nor the Clinton campaign responded to Post requests for comment late Tuesday.

Peter Carr, a Justice Department representative, declined to comment.
