Senior FBI officials "seemed indifferent" to evidence showing that a foreign adversary may have hacked former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's non-government email server, while officials in her department were seeking to downgrade classified material that was found, according to Senate interviews with intelligence community officials.

In a letter and interview transcripts sent to senior Republicans, including Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson, R-Wis., from the Senate Finance and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committees, the committees did not confirm if the intrusion actually occurred, reports Fox News.

The review was launched after two news articles in August 2018 reported a Chinese state-owned firm had inserted code in Clinton's server that would forward her emails back to the company itself.

At the time, a source confirmed to Fox that Frank Rucker and Jeannette McMillan of the Office of the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) discovered the code and drove to the FBI to personally inform agents, including Peter Strzok, of the discovery.

Rucker told Senate investigators in a December 2018 interview that Strzok, who was at the time the deputy assistant director of the FBI's counterintelligence division in charge of the Clinton investigation, seemed "aloof and dismissive" and did not ask many questions.

McMillan added that FBI employees were "poker-faced" during a briefing about the breach, reports Fox News.
