Sessions Reveals Prosecutor to Rule on FISA Abuses Special Counsel

Stopping short of assigning a new special counsel, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions revealed the work of a special prosecutor to investigate FISA abuses by the FBI and the potential mishandling of investigations into Hillary Clinton's Uranium One deal, CNN reported.

John Huber, a top federal prosecutor from Utah, has been working in secret before being revealed by Sessions in a statement Thursday, according to the report.

Huber will be making the determination if another special counsel is necessary, Sessions said.

"We understand that the Department is not above criticism and it can never be that the Department conceals errors when they occur," Sessions' statement read, according to CNN. "I am confident that Mr. Huber's review will include a full, complete, and objective evaluation of these matters in a manner that is consistent with the law and facts.

"I receive regular updates from Mr. Huber and upon the conclusion of his review, will receive his recommendations as to whether any matters not currently under investigation should be opened, whether any matters currently under investigation require further resources, or whether any matters merit the appointment of a special counsel."
