FedEx said Monday it will not end its discount program for the National Rifle Association — making the shipping company one of the most high-profile businesses to refuse a growing business boycott.
"We strongly support the constitutional right of U.S. citizens to own firearms subject to appropriate background checks," the statement said.
FedEx stressed its views are different from the NRA, and "FedEx opposes assault rifles being in the hands of civilians."
But the shipping company said the "NRA is one of hundreds of organizations in our alliances/association Marketing program whose members receive discounted rates for FedEx shipping," and it would not be changing the NRA discount program.
According to CNN, brands that have ended discounts and other perks for NRA members in the wake of the deadly mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida, include Enterprise Holdings, which owns the Enterprise, Alamo, and National rental car brands, as well as First National Bank of Omaha, Hertz, MetLife, Symantec, Chubb, SimpliSafe, Delta, and United Airlines.
The carrier's FedEx Advantage discount program for members of the NRA Business Alliance provides a variety of discounts on FedEx services, ranging from 18 percent off on select FedEx Express international shipping to 26 percent off select FedEx Express shipping within the United States, CNN reported.
