President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to veto the FISA bill Democrats were pushing through the House.

Trump tweeted ahead of the vote:

"If the FISA Bill is passed tonight on the House floor, I will quickly VETO it. Our Country has just suffered through the greatest political crime in its history. The massive abuse of FISA was a big part of it!"

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters the vote to reauthorize three authorities under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act would still move forward despite opposition from Trump and Republican lawmakers.

"We will act upon it today one way or another," she said.

Trump has slammed FISA for months as a result of the Russia probe.

The bill would reauthorize key provisions used to investigate terrorism and espionage that expired in March. It would also add oversight and restrictions to the U.S. government's ability to collect private information on Americans.

Attorney General William Barr, who helped craft key privacy provisions in the bill, opposed the latest version and urged Trump to veto it, saying the legislation goes too far and would weaken national security tools.

The legislation being considered in the House is nearly the same as what was passed in March, with the addition of one Senate amendment.

House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Tuesday urged Democrats to pull the bill.

"In moving forward today, it won't be signed into law. The President has questions, the attorney general has questions," McCarthy said. "Since the time we had passed the bill in the House, there has been more information coming forward with the FISA court being used in processes it shouldn't have been."
