The woman at the center of the Florida recount fiasco needs to go after the votes from last week's midterm elections are tallied, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said.
With Broward County's supervisor of elections Brenda Snipes under fire as her county deals with the recount, Bush joined a chorus of other conservatives calling on her to be removed from her post.
"There is no question that Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes failed to comply with Florida law on multiple counts, undermining Floridians' confidence in our electoral process. Supervisor Snipes should be removed from her office following the recounts," Bush wrote on Twitter.
Broward County and neighboring Palm Beach County are still counting votes with two crucial Florida elections — for governor and the Senate — awaiting the vote tally. Republican Gov. Rick Scott is running to unseat Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson and appears to have won, but a recount is underway. The gubernatorial race between Republican Ron DeSantis and Democrat Andrew Gillum is also tight and has yet to be officially decided.
Scott has filed multiple lawsuits against Snipes and the aforementioned counties because of the chaos that has ensued since last Tuesday's election. Thousands of new ballots were discovered in the days after the votes were cast, while a school teacher even found a bin labeled "Provisional Ballot Box" in a storage area of her school.
Snipes, according to reports, has not followed proper protocol to tally the votes and conduct the recount. The Sun-Sentinel also reported on Snipes' rocky history as the Broward elections chief.
Bush named Snipes to replace her fired predecessor in 2003, and she has won reelection ever since.
