No Florida military bases are on the list to house the new U.S. Space Command, CNN is reporting.
The proposed locations include four bases in Colorado and one in Alabama and California.
Some Florida lawmakers had been actively pushing to have the Space Command located in the state. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla. had sent a letter to the Defense Department in December urging to have the Space Command established in the state. And Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla. asked acting Secretary of Defense Pat Shanahan last month to locate in Florida.
According to CNN the Space Command will be made up of 1,450 personnel, including 390 military officers, 183 enlisted personnel and 827 civilians.
And Defense One report the criteria for Space Command’s eventual location includes having room for a 421,000-square-foot facility, a 288,000-square-foot parking lot and have access to an airport that can handle a C-17 airlifter.
