Boxer Mayweather Denies Mob Threw Punches at Him

Professional boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, after being surrounded by a crowd in central London reportedly angered over his pro-Israel stance, is denying claims that he was punched or touched in any way.

Mayweather and his entourage were surrounded while they visited a store in central London's Hatton Garden, an upscale jewelry location, according to videos posted online Tuesday night, reports The Daily Mail.

Witnesses claimed that someone in the crowd threw a punch at the former world champion, but he insisted that wasn't the case.

"Let me set the record straight... there's no truth to the rumors going around," Mayweather, whose nickname is "Money," posted on Instagram on Tuesday. "I wasn't punched or touched in any way. What you're seeing is just my security doing their job to keep things under control."

He added that he was in the U.K. for a "quick 48-hour stop to do some shopping, and unfortunately, people let jealousy and negativity fuel false stories. I'm perfectly fine, and there's really nothing more to it."

The crowd of about 30 people reportedly was heard taunting Mayweather, including using racial slurs, while his bodyguards pushed him into a vehicle, according to witnesses and videos posted online.

The videos show Mayweather, now a boxing promoter, shouting back at the crowd before he was driven away.

One witness claimed the former world champion "took a few hits."

The source said Mayweather was shopping when someone asked him if he supports Israel, to which he responded that he is "proud to support the Jews."

"Then someone took a swing at him because of that," the source said. "It looked very targeted. Floyd took a few hits during it, but his security was trying to push people back."

The witness added: "I couldn't really see Floyd trying to throw any punches back. His guards were just trying to get distance between him and them."

The Metropolitan Police reported that officers did not respond to the incident and have not received any allegations concerning the matter, reports The Independent.

Mayweather traveled to Israel in March to show his support for the country, and last year, after the Hamas attacks, he said he stands with Israel against its invaders.

"Hamas [does] not represent the people of Palestine but [is] a terrorist group that is attacking innocent lives," he said at the time. "I stand for all humans and wish for the safe return of all Americans and Israelis and any human that were kidnapped as hostages during these horrific war crimes."

Mayweather retired from boxing with a 50-0 record after beating Conor McGregor in 2017 and held 15 world championships that spanned five weight classes from super featherweight to light middleweight.
