Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and his flamboyant neon green shirt stole the show in the season premiere of "Dancing With the Stars."
In his intro Monday night, Spicer said it was finally time for him to start enjoying himself. And that is exactly what he did when he took to the dance floor with his partner, Lindsay Arnold, and launched into their rehearsed routine to the Spice Girls song "Spice Up Your Life," Entertainment Tonight reported.
While their moves were not necessarily award-winning, Spicer and Arnold managed to gain the approval of the judges, who all awarded the duo 4s, giving them a score of 12/30.
"Best fluorescent shimmy of the night," judge Carrie Ann Inaba said after the performance. "You were off-beat most of the dance, but you had fun!"
Spicer and his outfit were also got the attention of viewers, who took to social media to air their views and crack a few jokes.
"Clearly the Costume designer on #dwts is a Democrat," tweeted @NancyLeeGrahn.
"Slightly surreal moment to turn on the TV in DC and see footage of Sean Spicer cutting loose in an eye popping green shirt," added @RosMathieson.
“DWTS” host Tom Bergeron previously expressed doubts about Spicer joining the cast. In a statement, he recalled initially hoping that season 28 would "be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably divisive bookings from any party affiliation" and questioned the decision to include Spicer in the show.
"We can all agree to disagree. As we do now, but ultimately it's their call. I'll leave it to them to answer any further questions about those decisions," he said.
