The alleged shooter who opened fire at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has been identified as Esteban Santiago, 26, who holds a position in the military.
Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida made the identification in an interview with MSNBC based on identification that was found on the suspect.
Santiago, born in 1990, was taken into custody following the early afternoon shooting in which five were shot dead in the baggage claim area of the busy airport terminal.
Meanwhile, a law enforcement source told CBS News that Santiago was born in New Jersey. It was not known if he still lived in the Garden State.
One witness described Santiago as slender and wearing a blue Star Wars T-shirt.
A U.S. intelligence official told NBC News it was too early to assess Santiago's motive.
