Most Americans would cast a resounding "no" vote on a nuclear agreement with Iran that's being considered by Congress – and don't think Tehran would stick to the deal anyway, a Fox News poll shows.
In the survey, respondents were asked to imagine how they would vote on the nuclear pact if they were in Congress: 58 percent would reject it, while 31 percent would vote "yes," the poll shows.
The strongest majorities were Republican and independents; 83 percent of GOP respondents and 60 percent of independents say they'd vote "no."
Among Democrats, 35 percent would vote it down, while 50 percent would approve the agreement, the survey finds.
A whopping 75 percent say Iran can't be trusted to honor the pact.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
President Barack Obama hit the skids over the Iran issue as well,
a Gallup survey shows.
The poll finds the president's job approval rating on his handling of Iran sank to a dismal 33 percent, with 55 percent disapproving of the job he's doing.
The rating was his lowest on eight separate issues measured in the Gallup poll.
The president racks up his highest marks on race relations, education and climate change – even though he doesn't rack up a majority approval rating on any of them, the poll finds. His overall approval rating is 47 percent.
The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
"If Congress signs off on the nuclear deal with Iran, it is possible that Obama's approval rating on that front could improve," the Gallup poll analysis finds. "But if Congress votes the deal down, Obama's leadership will have suffered a major blow that could further diminish his rating on Iran, and perhaps his overall job performance rating."
