Former Fox News host Andrea Tantaros, embroiled in a sexual harassment lawsuit against ex-chairman Roger Ailes, challenged him and some current network employees to take lie detector tests.
Buzzfeed's Kyle Blaine tweeted portions of an emailed statement from Tantaros' lawyer, Judd Burstein.
"The time has come [...] either to let this case play out in the courtroom or to conduct an even-handed trial in the court of public opinion," the email read, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tantaros said if Ailes and the Fox employees agreed, she would also answer questions of their choosing while hooked up to a lie detector.
Ailes would be asked: "Did you ever ask Ms. Tantaros to turn around for you?" and "Did you ever say anything to Ms. Tantaros about how she would look in a bikini?" Blaine tweeted. Also, he added, Ailes would be asked: "Did you ever ask Ms. Tantaros to hug you?"
Burstein proposed asking network co-president Bill Shine, the new head of Fox News, if Tantaros made complaints about sexual harassment and retaliation to him, and if he was aware Fox made attempts to "smear her on social media using so-called 'sock puppet' accounts," according to Raw Story.
Fox News Vice President Dianne Brandi, former spokeswoman Irena Briganti, and host Bill O’Reilly are among those named in the demands.
Questions include:
- "Did Roger Ailes ever direct you to block or decline any positive publicity about Ms. Tantaros?"
- "Do you know what a sock puppet account is?"
- "Does Fox News pay anyone to maintain sock puppet accounts?"
- "An innocent person would jump at the chance for this kind of vindication," the letter read. "And if Ms. Tantaros were not telling the truth she would not risk offering this proposal."
