Former President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush on Saturday celebrated 73 years of marriage, a milestone no other presidential couple has ever reached.
The pair married on January 6th, 1945 in Rye, New York, Barbara Bush's hometown. George Bush, the 41st president of the United States, was 16 when he first met Barbara. They were engaged after dating for almost two years, just before he headed off to serve as a Navy pilot in the Second World War.
In November, George Bush, now 93, became the longest-living commander-in-chief in U.S. history. The former first lady is now 92 years old. Bush became president in 1989 after serving as vice president for Ronald Reagan. He was defeated in the 1992 election by Bill Clinton, and his son George W. Bush served as president from 2001-2009.
