Billionaire Soros Joins 'Ready for Hillary' Team

Liberal billionaire investor George Soros kicked in $25,000 to Ready for Hillary, the super PAC organizing support for a possible 2016 presidential run by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Politico reported Thursday.

Soros will be co-chair of the group's national finance council, Soros' political director Michael Vachon said in an emailed statement.

"George Soros is delighted to join more than 1 million Americans in supporting Ready for Hillary," Vachon said. "His support for Ready for Hillary is an extension of his long-held belief in the power of grass-roots organizing."

Talking Points Memo reported the finance group is working to persuade the former first lady to run for president.

The wealthy Democratic donor's contribution comes as the countdown to Clinton's 66th birthday on Saturday begins — and the Ready for Hillary PAC hopes to cash in, The New York Daily News reported.

"I hope you can take a second to add your name and help show her just how much support is out there," Adam Parkhomenko, the PAC's executive director, wrote to supporters in an email that prompts Clinton enthusiasts to "sign" an electronic card — and donate, the newspaper reported.

Politico reported supporters of Clinton, who has yet to say if she'll run for president in 2016, are trying to figure out the co-existence of "Ready for Hillary," which is focusing on grass-roots involvement, and Priorities USA, the former pro-President Obama super PAC that launched devastating attack ads against Mitt Romney last year.

Soros, who ultimately gave $1 million to Priorities USA last year, has expressed greater interest in grass-roots groups and has shunned negative ads, Politico reported.
