CNN Poll: Opinion of GOP Falls to All-Time Low of 29%

Just 29 percent of Americans hold a favorable view of the Republican Party, the lowest score recorded in 25 years, according to the latest CNN poll.

The previous low of 30 percent favorability of the GOP was recorded in 1998 and 2013, CNN says of its results. The 29 percent is a 13-point drop since March, CNN reports.

Further, 79 percent of Republicans surveyed believe President Donald Trump is taking the country in the right direction, compared to just 53 percent who believe GOP congressional leaders are doing so.

Other results from the poll, according to CNN's results:

• Overall approval of GOP leadership is at 20 percent, a new low since 2008.
• 39 percent of Republicans approve of the job GOP leaders in Congress are doing.
• Speaker Paul Ryan's favorability is at 32 percent, down 6 points since April.
• Senate leader Mitch McConnell's favorability is 20 percent, down 7 points since April.

Also, anger at both parties is on the rise across the spectrum of affiliated voters, according to CNN. Overall, 59 percent of Americans are angry at both parties, with the breakdown showing a rise in all three affiliations:

• 68 percent of Independents are angry at both parties, up 10 points since March.
• 63 percent of Republicans are angry at both parties, up 25 points since March.
• 49 percent of Democrats are angry at both parties.

The CNN poll was conducted by SSRS by telephone from Sept. 17 to Sept. 20 among a random national sample of 1,053 adults. The margin of sampling error for results among the full sample is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
