House Majority Whip Steve Scalise underwent a successful surgery Wednesday as part of his ongoing recovery from being shot during a Congressional baseball practice last year.
The surgery was performed at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, which posted a statement on Twitter regarding the Louisiana Republican's condition:
Scalise announced Tuesday he would have the surgery, but would not say what the surgery was. Scalise and three other people were shot by a gunman who targeted them as they practiced for a Congressional baseball game last June at a park in Alexandria, Virginia.
Scalise was shot in the hip and was evacuated off the field via helicopter. He was in serious condition at one point, underwent several surgeries, and received multiple blood transfusions.
Scalise returned to work last September.
