Democrats remain divided on the question of whether President Donald Trump should face impeachment proceedings, but meanwhile, it's important for lawmakers to continue with "very strong oversight" and for members of Congress on both sides to ensure there is no interference in the 2020 elections, Rep. Josh Gottheimer said Monday.
"The speaker has made it pretty clear that what we need to do is ensure separation of power, across the board and committees using the courts, using oversight power, and we need to continue down that path," the New Jersey Democrat, who co-chairs the House Problem Solvers' Caucus, told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."
Gottheimer acknowledged he has not read former special counsel Robert Mueller's full report, but he does think after hearing his testimony that the Russians and the issues from the 2016 election did not get enough attention.
He added that he wasn't talking about investigating the past election, but that he would like the investigations into the subject of election interference to continue on a bipartisan nature.
Gottheimer said it's also important to focus on other issues, noting that the passage of the Victim's Compensation Fund bill is a good example of bipartisan cooperation.
Meanwhile, when asked if Americans are "sick of the obsession" into the investigation, Gottheimer said he believes Americans "want us to continue our job in oversight, [and] get to the bottom of the facts," while focusing on other issues, such as infrastructure.
Gottheimer also said he does not think House Democrats are obsessed with Mueller or Russia.
