President Donald Trump has made it "very clear" that he did "absolutely nothing wrong" by talking about former Vice President Joe Biden with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, but releasing a transcript of their conversation "could set a bad precedent," White House Press Secretary and Communications Director Stephanie Grisham said Monday.
"This is just another reason for Democrats and for the media to attack and look for things that just aren't there," Grisham told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."
Grisham said that up to 10 to 20 people can be listening to Trump's calls with foreign leaders.
"It's true what the president said, when foreign leaders come together to speak, they need to be able to speak candidly," said Grisham. "I do think that perhaps releasing this kind of a transcript could set a bad precedent. He is willing to do it, I think. There is a lot of other people, lawyers and such that may have a problem with it."
A whistleblower says Trump tried to push Ukraine into investigating the business activities of Biden and his son, Hunter. Trump has denied putting on any pressure, but on Sunday said he'd discussed Biden with Zelensky, largely on "the fact that we don't want our people like Vice President Biden and his son [contributing] to the corruption already in the Ukraine.”
Grisham said she does not know who the whistleblower is, and it's no surprise that the claims are being used as a reason to seek impeachment proceedings against Trump.
"What's new?" Grisham said. "They can't go a day without saying impeachment. It's a bad day for them."
