A hacker or hackers behind a massive cyberattack on Democratic groups Friday leaked a large batch of records exclusively to The Hill, saying the documents are the first section of a much larger document haul to be released on WikiLeaks.
The website said it received records from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee from a hacker going by the name of Guccifer 2.0, with documents that included names, Social Security numbers and other personal information from Democratic donors.
The documents also included memos that had been used to prepare President Barack Obama, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California, and other DCCC officials for a fundraising event. The DCCC works toward the elections of House Republicans.
The hacker also posted some of the hacked documents, including personal contact information of House Democrats, as well as DCCC shared passwords for online databases and news networks on the Guccifer website Friday, reports The Hill.
Several of the documents The Hill received were about a DCCC dinner at the home of Virginia donor Tori Winkler Thomas, an event that featured Obama and Pelosi, as well as Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., and DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján, D- NM. The package included vetting forms, a seating chart, and more.
The information also included memos for all featured Democrats with thorough biographies, including a detailed description of Pelosi for Obama's memo.
Guccifer 2.0 has claimed credit for a hack of emails from the Democratic National Committee just before this summer's party convention, but has remained silent for three weeks after WikiLeaks posted the emails.
