Harry Reid: 'I'm Not Afraid of the Koch Brothers'

By    |   Thursday, 13 March 2014 03:48 PM EDT

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid continued his diatribe against Charles and David Koch in a floor speech Thursday morning, insisting he is "not afraid" of them.

Reid started by denouncing the criticism he has received over the past couple of weeks for "exposing two multibillionaires … two oil barons, and they're trying to rig the political system to favor the rich and especially favor themselves," reports Mediaite.

Reid similarly took to the Senate floor two weeks ago to attack the anti-Obamacare ads from Americans for Prosperity, which is funded by the Koch brothers. During that speech, he called them "un-American" for their political activities.

On Thursday, Reid called their ads targeting Democrats over Obamacare "misleading at best and outright false in many instances."

"The Koch brothers are willing to do anything, even exploit Americans suffering from cancer, to advance their campaign of distortion," he said.

"I'm not afraid of the Koch brothers. None of us should be afraid of the Koch brothers," Reid stated. "I'll do whatever it takes to expose their campaign to rig the American political system to benefit the wealthy at the expense of the middle class."

Reid also made generous use of the word "radical" in his criticism of the Kochs. "When Senate Republicans defend the Koch brothers, they are also defending the Koch brothers' radical philosophy," he said, reports ABC News.

He went on to ask whether Republicans would defend the "radical" agenda to roll back environmental regulations, repeal Democratic health reforms, and alter Social Security and Medicare.
