Not only do 63% of registered voters say President Joe Biden should not run for reelection in 2024, but the incumbent trails former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical race in the latest Harvard-Harris Poll.

If an election between Biden and Trump were held today, the poll asked, voters choose Trump (45%) over Biden (43%) by 2 percentage points. However, 12% were unsure.

Trump held an even wider margin over Vice President Kamala Harris among voters, winning a hypothetical race by 6 points (47%-41%). Another 12% were unsure.

Also, Trump appears to be far more popular than Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, who actually loses a hypothetical race with Harris by 4 points (42%-38%). There were 20% of voters weighing in as unsure.

The numbers are unkind to Democrats. There are a large majority of voters (61%) who say the U.S. is on the wrong track under Biden. Also, Biden's overall job approval is wallowing in the low 40s at just 41%, with 54% disapproving of the job he has done to date.

Other polls are showing similar numbers in Trump's favor. The RealClearPolitics polling average gives Trump a 3.1-point advantage over Biden in a hypothetical 2024 race.

One silver-lining finding in the Harvard-Harris poll is a 50-50 dead heat between Republicans and Democrats in a generic November 2022 midterm congressional ballot.

Those numbers are more favorable to Democrats than the RealClearPolitics polling average for the 2022 generic midterm ballot, which gives Republicans a 2.5-point advantage.

Harvard's Center for American Political Studies, along with The Harris Poll, conducted the poll among 1,966 registered voters April 20-21. No margin of error was given.
