Immigrants infected with any of three sexually transmitted diseases that trigger sores or lesions on the genitalia may now enter the United States, The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has decided.

The Washington Examiner reports
that the edict is an expansion of a previous decision to let in those with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. It will go into effect by April.

The three sexually transmitted diseases are identified as granuloma inguinale, chancroid, and lymphogranuloma venereum by Law360.com.

The Examiner sites a study by the report from the Center for Immigration Studies, a non-partisan, non-profit, research organization, which says the HHS does not believe the costs to taxpayers to deal with the STD-infected immigrants will be significant.
