Attorney General William Barr is "doing the job he was hired to do" and calling for his resignation makes "perfect sense," Hillary Clinton said during a wide-ranging interview Wednesday night.
"He auditioned for the job with his 19-page memo, basically saying there is no such thing as obstruction of justice when it comes to a president," the former secretary of state and 2016 Democrat presidential nominee told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow. "He was hired to make sure that was a reality. He has behaved in that way."
Further, she said Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee did a "good job" in "exposing" him as President Donald Trump's defense attorney.
"He is not the attorney general of the United States in the way he has conducted himself," Clinton said. "I think we know that we know what we need to know about him."
Also during the interview:
- Clinton said she learned in Mueller's report that the Russians "were successful" in helping Trump win against her in 2016 and Russia conducted a "sweeping and systemic interference" in the election and "appears to be doing it again."
- She turned a Trump jab on her back against him: "Since Russia is clearly backing Republicans, why don't we ask China to back us...China, if you're listening, why don't you get Trump's tax returns? I'm sure our media would richly reward you."
- After Barr refused to answer whether the White House directed him to initiate specific investigations against her, former FBI Director James Comey, or others, Clinton said she sees that as "big a sign of a guilty conscience. She added that she's been "living rent-free inside of Donald Trump's brain, and it's not a very nice place to be, I can tell you that."
