Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton weighed in Tuesday on the controversy over a
South Carolina sheriff's deputy seen pulling a female student from her desk in viral online videos.
On Twitter, Clinton said there is "no excuse for violence inside a school," adding that the incident was "unacceptable." The tweet is signed "H," indicating that Clinton personally wrote and sent the tweet.
Students in a classroom in Spring Valley High School in Columbia shot the confrontation on cell phones. In them, school resource officer Ben Fields, who is white, can be seen wrestling the black student from her desk and dragging her along the floor.
Fields was called to the classroom on Monday after the student was reportedly disrupting the class by talking on her phone. She reportedly refused to leave the room when told to do so by the teacher.
Richard County Sheriff Leon Lott said in a press conference Monday that a third cell phone video shows the student punching the officer, but added that the girl's actions don't necessarily exonerate Fields.
