A House Democrat “fixed” a sign on the podium at President Donald Trump’s White House press conference Wednesday, trolling him with a doctored version of the president’s Mueller probe analysis.
Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., tweeted an alternate podium display.
“Fixed the President’s Rose Garden sign for him,” he wrote.
The original sign, which took aim at the cost and reach of the special counsel’s Russia investigation — and prominently displayed an all-capped “no obstruction, no collusion” declaration — was on the podium as Trump ripped the Mueller probe.
Himes’ version edited the sign to highlight results of the probe that included 37 guilty pleas and verdicts and net revenue of over $30 million, largely seized from former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort.
Himes' version also included a quote from Mueller’s redacted report: “[i]f we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state.”
The Twitter burn followed the abrupt end of a meeting between Trump and congressional Democratic leaders on Wednesday morning, apparently sparked by earlier comments of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., that the president engaged in a "cover-up."
Trump retaliated with a vow to not work with House Democrats on infrastructure legislation until they ended investigations into him and the White House.
