Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, blasted both the GOP and Democrats for the shutdown, saying “there is plenty of blame to go around.”
His comments came in a column posted Wednesday night by The Washington Post.
“That isn’t governing — it’s just political theater, and millions of Americans are tired of the drama,” he wrote.
“Politicians on both sides of the aisle refuse to give up even a little to get a lot done. Neither side really wants to make progress; they just want to make demands and win arguments. Getting something done for the American people no longer seems to be a priority in the nation’s capital.”
Hogan noted he is a Republican governor facing a legislature controlled by the Democrats, but the two sides have worked together.
He said the goal has been to promote common sense and bipartisan policy solutions.
“My experiences over the past four years have blessed me with optimism, not burdened me with dread,” Hogan wrote.
“I come from the get-things-done school of politics, and I’ll work with anyone who wants to do the people’s business. Our leaders in Washington need to do the same.”
