A group of House Democrats have introduced a bill that requires all U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to wear body cameras, The Hill reports.
Eighteen House Democrats have joined with Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y. in pushing for the cameras.
Clarke insists the law is necessary in order to protect those targeted by immigration enforcement from any abuse, according to the website.
The bill would force ICE agents to wear body cameras during all field operations, Clarke wrote on Facebook.
And in a statement, she added: "As Donald Trump has dramatically expanded the number of undocumented Americans who are a priority for deportation, many immigrants in Brooklyn and across the United States now fear a knock on the door in the middle of the night."
She said so far, the use of body cameras by law enforcement agencies throughout the country have been promising.
"We should apply this same approach to immigration enforcement," she said. "Immigrants and their families are entitled to respect for their humanity and to the full rights guaranteed under the law."
The Observer noted Clarke's bill says the money needed to purchase the cameras and store information from them will be come from "funds made available to purchase new weapons for ICE officials."
