House Republicans are set for their annual policy retreat in Florida as they decide how to advance their legislative agenda.
Republicans are gathering at Trump National Doral near Miami, with President Donald Trump expected to address the gathering Monday evening, the Hill reported.
House Republican leadership has said they want to extend the 2017 tax cuts and enact energy and border policy through one single bill using budget reconciliation, the Hill reported, to give Trump faster legislative victories.
With a slim 219-217 majority, every vote counts.
"We've got a math problem," Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., who is hoping to offset the tax cuts with spending cuts, said last week. "Let's put the math on the board, and let's go about it agency by agency."
GOP leaders hope to pass the bill by the end of February and will hold meetings to discuss priorities for the bill and how to offset costs, the Hill reported.
House Republicans also must decide how to raise the debt limit, without giving Democrats any leverage, per Trump's demands, according to The Hill.
Proposals have included including the debt limit in the reconciliation bill or attaching it to a package that includes government funding and wildfire aid.
"There are a number of ideas on the table we're talking about," House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said to The Hill. "We're taking all the House Republicans to a big retreat early next week down in Florida, and we'll finalize all those decisions."
